Hands first

For artists, by artists. Made by hand, passed hand to hand, and never put through a machine.

No machines in the loop

Calanq has no AI. Nothing here is generated, upscaled, "enhanced," or dreamed up by a model trained on someone else's work. We don't host it, sell it, or remix with it, and we won't build features that need it.

We're also keeping screens out of the work itself. Calanq is for paint, paper, clay, thread, metal, wood, ink, and bodies in a room. You can photograph a piece to show the crew. The piece itself has to exist somewhere you could knock it off a table.

That isn't nostalgia. It's the point. Most of what reaches you online has been ranked, filtered, cropped, and optimised before you see it. We want a place where what you see is what someone actually made, and the person who made it is standing right there.

Hands, not prompts

A piece on Calanq starts with someone's hands and ends with someone else's. In between it gets traded, painted over, cut up, stitched into, and argued about. Every person who touched it stays on it. The credit sticks because the work was real.

You can't prompt your way into the chain. You have to show up with something.

Grass roots, on purpose

We aren't a platform looking for content. We're a crew looking for hands.

Calanq grows the slow way: one paste-up, one zine swap, one alley auction at a time. It starts in Marseille and London because those are the streets we know. Every new city has to be built by the people who live there, not dropped in from above.

No influencer deals. No growth hacks. No ads. If Calanq gets big, it'll be because the people already in it brought their friends.

Learn. Share. Do.

Learn from the person next to you. The best technique you'll pick up this year won't come from a tutorial. It'll come from watching someone mix a colour you didn't know existed.

Share what you know, what you've got, and what you're stuck on. Leftover paint. A studio corner. The trick you spent three years working out.

Do the thing. Unfinished beats perfect. A half-done piece on the wall gives the next person something to work with. A perfect one in your drawer gives them nothing.

Get dirty

Make a mess. Ruin a few pieces. Hand your work to a stranger and let them take it somewhere you'd never go. Some remixes will be worse. A few will be better than anything either of you would have made alone. You only find out which by letting go.

Grow together

Nobody on Calanq makes it alone. When a piece sells, everyone who touched it shares in it. When a crew opens a street for a night, everyone who shows up is part of it. Your work doesn't compete with ours. It feeds it.

We'd rather be a hundred artists who know each other's names than a million who scroll past each other.

The short version

  • Made by hands. No AI, no generated work, no digital-only pieces.
  • Artists first. Not collectors, not shoppers, not algorithms.
  • Every hand gets credit, every time.
  • Built from the street up, one city and one crew at a time.
  • Learn, share, do. Then hand it on.

Bring your hands. We'll bring the wall.
